Sakura Matsuri

The yoshino cherry blossoms at the Tidal Basin are famous. But how many varieties of cherry trees are there in Japan?

If you had attended the Cherry Blossom Festival you would know the answer, otherwise I will charge $0.50 for the answer in English, or $1.50 if you want it in Japanese.

Other things you might have missed if you didn't attend the parade:

Lantern Giant Balloons

Cherry Blossom Flower Giant Balloons

Umbrella Dancing Performance

My favorite element of a marching band: Drum Lines, and these two groups had particularly tight drum beats:

Love their drums

Afterwards we went to the Japanese Street Festival which was very interesting, specially because there were 9 of us and we all decided to get lost at one point or another. My one complaint, why did the majority of the food vendors sell Chinese food and Thai food????????? My little brother, a loyal Japanese food eater refused to eat Lo Mein and other etcetera items so he stood in line for the Sushi, no, not the short Sushi line being offered by a vendor who also sold Chinese food because he considered it disgraceful, but the LONG LONG LONG Sushi line from a vendor whose fish seemed to him "fresh and authentic." And despite his amusing quest and my indescribable admiration for my favorite boy in the world for having a more refined palate and much greater determination than your average 15 year old, the whole thing was unacceptable, it is, after all, a Japanese Festival.

What? You want more trivia? Ok...What does Sakura Matsuri (yeah the title of this post) mean in English?

That one will cost you $0.52
