I am really looking forward to incorporating all the Fall trends into my outfits this coming season. Some of my favorites are over-the-knee boots, long leather gloves, vintage motorcycle jackets, mens gold watches and over-sized blazers. Somehow Urban Outfitters has managed to have all the perfect items in all those categories. Here is a collage of my favorites.

Bright star, would I were stedfast as thou art--
Last night was the advanced screening of BRIGHT STAR (in theaters September 18), I hope all the TPWP readers who won tickets enjoyed the event and the movie as much as I did. The film is an astonishingly perfect depiction of two people falling in love told through beautiful imagery, impeccable acting and exquisite film-making. I am a big fan of artistic, lushly sensual and highly detailed cinematography and Jane Campion's BRIGHT STAR has become one of my favorite in that genre along with Terrence Malick's The New World.
Here are some pictures from the pre-screening party. Thank you to Alyssa Grinder and Allied Advertising for including us in the event.

Mens Fashion Week
Would you like to know what's happening in the XY side of Fashion Week? Well, you and your boyfriend should visit the new KidGQ site - now known as District Cut - the only source of premier men's fashion in the city and in my opinion, one of the best men's blogs on the internet.

If you haven't tuned in to the Sundance Channel to watch "The Day Before" series - especially the Proenza Schouler episode you must make it a priority. And if you didn't already love Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough, after seeing this Spring 2010 collection you probably will. How can bright green tie dye with tassels look this good? I'm not really sure how, but I definitely love it. Also love all the citrus-colored mini skirts and of course all the shiny dresses. They captured the youth and vibrancy of Spring so perfectly!

I'll take some sequins with the ice cream please
It's probably not the first time you've read about my love for Phillip Lim's designs. Spring 2010 is no different, my heart fluttered when I saw his swirl tulle dresses, his sequined tops, his leather paneled pleated cocktail mini. He can do no wrong in my eyes, and this season his clothes look as gorgeous as ever.

Win tickets to the advance screening of BRIGHT STAR
Written and directed by Jane Campion, BRIGHT STAR tells the story of the three-year romance between 19th century poet John Keats and his muse Fanny Brawne. Fanny is a fascinating character, a fashion-conscious and skillful seamstress who designed and sewed elaborate and incredibly gorgeous gowns.
The film has brilliant visual imagery, every shot carefully framed and perfectly coordinated with Keat's poetry. The images themselves give the viewer an intimate portrayal of the emotional relationship between the poet and his love. The shots are perfection - soft breezes blowing through invisible curtains in Fanny's bedroom, delicate purple flowers dancing with the wind in a never-ending field and of course Fanny's beautiful clothes. Below is my collage of some of my favorite shots from the film.
To enter, email us by this Saturday at midnight at TPWP@thepresidentwearsprada.com and since this is a story about lost loves, you must tell us about a favorite fashion item that you just can't live without. I will pick 5 entries and email you Sunday morning.

Spring 2010 continued
Some of my favorite Spring 2010 collections so far:
Derek Lam and Twinkle by Wenlan
I'm a big fan of Twinkle by Wenlan this season. Her clothes are so effortlessly light and happy, I LOVE the coral lipstick on the models. The entire aesthetic from the mermaid hair to the watercolor prints speak of perfect, breezy Spring days, she captured them so so well.
Derek Lam and Twinkle by Wenlan
Derek Lam's patriotic collection is so perfectly charming. His colorful, lady-like, but youthfull dresses are so chic yet simple. His stars and stripes throughout are lovely as well. He had so much color without being overwhelming and managed to include so many Spring-time details- great prints, great sequins, great silhouettes and yet it all seemed so cohesive.
Cynthia Steffe and Yigal Azrouel
I love easy clothes for Spring and Yigal AzrouĆ«l’s well-known fluid draping looks so appealing when the weather gets warm. He had some gorgeous and subtly feminine gowns that I adored. Cynthia Steffe also had some light, draped clothes, my favorite was this off-the-shoulder t-shirt paired with a metallic tassel skirt.
Marc Jacobs' show was, as expected, full of surprises and very reminiscent of the pulcinella ballet with some geisha touches. Extremely avant-garde, though I'm unsure about some of the silhouettes and proportions of the suits, as always there are a couple outstanding designs among the madness. One of my very favorite is this incredible dress, the lines created with the dark piping against the while tulle are magical. The dress looks like a pencil drawing come to life.

For 15 days
To celebrate the 15th Anniversary of Diesel's 55DSL label 15 Diesel stores across the country, including the Georgetown location here in DC will be "hijacked" with 55DSL merchandise including the exclusive collaboration sneaker with adidas Originals the XV/55. This limited edition sneaker combines the technical expertise of adidas Originals with the signature style and colors of 55DSL. The XV/55 uses the iconic adidas Original Nizza model that is based on a classic 1980’s basketball shoe.
Here is a preview of the sneaker. I must say I am impressed at the level of restraint on this design. It's a pretty good "modern vintage" look and its simplicity will appeal to shoppers across the board.
American Sports
Fall Fashion week is by far my favorite, but every year there is a Spring show that makes me bite my tongue and revives my hope for warm-weather clothes. This year is it was Alexander Wang. I loved EVERYTHING about his show. His ability to take an unfashionable American pastime and use its quirks and details to create an edgy, fun and novel show is incredible so refreshing. I loved the athletic socks paired with tasseled loafers. I loved his impeccable camel colored motorcycle jacket. I loved the leather details on his sweatshirt dresses. I loved the entire sporty pin-up look. Surprisingly, I think many of these items should translate well to real-life, especially his outerwear - which will also transition easily to Fall. I can't wait to see these in person. Click to see more pictures after the break.

Full Frontal Fashion
I was really excited to see the launch of Full Frontal Fashion earlier this week - this very stylish and content packed website offers a very fresh and youthful insight into the world of fashion. It's been one of my go-to sites for Fashion Week coverage with great images and inside information by Patrick McMullan. Another one of my favorite reasons to visit the site is the new original production "The Day Before," a fashion documentary series which goes behind-the-scenes during the final 36 hours leading up to major fashion shows for Sonia Rykiel, Proenza Schouler, Fendi by Karl Lagerfeld, and Jean Paul Gaultier. You can see some of the clips HERE.
Here are some pictures from the premier party for "The Day Before" as well as some images from the documentaries.

Spring is here (in New York)
I'm never ready for flowers when Spring comes around, it doesn't seem warm enough for them and year after year I find myself clinging to my Fall/Winter layers. That might be why Helmut Lang is one of my favorite collections so far for Spring 2010. Doesn't scream Spring, but seems light enough to get me through the slightly warmer days and looks like it would make a seamless transition from the Winter. Oh yeah, and who doesn't love black lace.

Arm Candy
Susan Farber makes some of the most "in style" bags every season. Somehow she manages to have in her collections exactly what everyone wants - looking for oversized bows - check. In the mood for exposed zippers - check. Want pretty girly ruffles - check. Are you dying for fringe - yup she has that too. I have one of her little tie-dye, big bow clutches and it is one of the great staples in my accessory closet. Her lovely bags are made in New York from Italian leathers and will be on sale tomorrow Thursday Sept 3rd on the new, edgier Gilt site - Gilt Fuse.
Here are some preview pictures of the goodies. If you're not a Gilt Fuse member, don't worry, you can follow this link http://www.giltfuse.com/thepresidentwearsprada or enter promo code: thepresidentwearsprada on their site.

Christian Siriano shoes are HERE!
I was sooo excited when I heard Christian Siriano was designing a capsule collection of shoes for Payless. I have liked many of their designer shoes, specially the Alice & Olivia booties and have always been extremely impressed with the quality of the collection shoes. Siriano showed a sneak peek of the collection during his February runway show, where he showcased the Egyptian-inspired prototypes. They looked unbelievably edgy, spikes, architectural heels, color, and more spikes. I have been counting down the days until September 8th (when they arrive in stores), but decided to go to my local Payless yesterday just to look around and to my great surprise they had ALL the Siriano shoes already there. They are gorgeous, not as edgy as the prototypes, but with a lot of presence and height (4" heels!!).
I bought almost all of them.... I really couldn't help myself - buy one and get the other half off!!
Here are my pictures:
Black Strut - My favorite one, looks so expensive, has a great heel, chains in the front and is incredibly comfortable (for a 4" heel). I think Siriano was brilliant in picking this material, it resembles a patent snake skin, is sturdy and does not look cheap at all.
Black Slither - Another gorgeous shoe, you will notice he used the same material throughout many of his designs, as well the the same heel and toe box - very smart. The lining of this boot is bright turquoise and has the same pattern as many of his other shoes. The collection looks cohesive and modern. This one is also a 4" heel, and has one big "spike" on the zipper, which is better than none.
Teal Slither - I love this bootie! The color is gorgeous and the art deco design - from the heel, the spike and the pattern - so perfect.
Brown Sandstrap - This one has a deep rich color, same material as the Strut, maybe not quite as versatile as that one, and not quite as edgy but still looks great. It also comes in black.
These two flats I didn't buy, the teal one was pretty in person and could be a great every day shoe, the brown one I didn't like, it looks so normal, it didn't look like it belonged in the collection. Although I probably would like it if it had spikes instead of that flower.

Papiers Peints
I love the gorgeous intricate wallpaper from De Gournay, I had the pleasure of visiting their showroom in NYC recently and was amazed by all their hand-painted samples. I would love love love to see some of these designs on fabric, they would make incredible gowns.
Here are some of my favorite De Gournay rooms plus the pictures I took of the hand-painted details.
Temple Newsam Chinoiserie on custom yellow painted silk. The combination of bright yellow and turquoise couldn't be any more perfect.
Badminton on Celadon dyed silk.
Windswep blossom design on sterling silver gilded paper.
Portobello design on gold gilded silk.
Custom Askew on blue grey dyed silk.
Askew in custom green Williamsburg. Such a perfect shade of green!
This was my favorite sample - Bamboo river blossom on gold gilded paper. The mix of pretty cherry blossom flowers with the light blue wash and the gold underneath was stunning. The mix of all the different textures gave this one an amazing three-dimensional quality.
Another Japanese blossom tree.
One of the many intricate birds on the samples.
Another mix of subtle colors with many birds.
Plum blossom on silver silk twill. I loved the raspberry watercolors on this one, it was so dainty and bright.
