Five Decades

If you have seen Richard Avedon's "In The American West" portraits, you will know that they are as good as Avedon's images get. I like Avedon for his unique and special ability to deconstruct emotions, circumstances and experiences and condense them into one face, into one single shot. That's why I love "In The American West", and also why I love the two images below from his current exhibit "Portraits of Power" at the Corcoran. I am not a huge fan of his political portraits or his celebrity photos, I find that they don't contain the depth and haunting quality of his other shots. Nevertheless, the exhibit showcased some fantastic extra large images of his and provided a chronological exposition of his work which interestingly underlined his trends and styles throughout the years.

Here are some of the pictures I took at the exhibit:

His books in the exhibit media room

My two favorite images from the exhibit - Avedon at his best - condensing 10000 life long emotions into one shot

William Casby, Born a slave 1963.

Dr. J. Robert Oppenheimer, physicist, 1958.

Of course no trip to the Corcoran would be complete without visiting their cafe

Delicious brunch waffle.

Pixel Prints

It's been well established on this blog how much I love Phillip Lim - So it should be of no surprise that I'm delighted by his "Holiday 2008" Collection. I want the red cadet jacket, I want to wear all his gloves with all my dresses, I want his over-sized necklaces, I want his patchwork Belgium bags. Good thing Christmas is right around the corner ;)
